The Importance of Stillness in this Busy Life
Quick question: When does your mind get to have a rest?
When you are asleep… your mind is still doing its stuff, so unless you want to be overwhelmed on a regular basis, maybe it is time to consider getting it a slot in your daily schedule.
I’m sure by now you keep reading that environment is everything when it comes to mental wellbeing. Well, so is your internal environment, and we can start by creating regular time for stillness.
This isn’t a nice-to-have. To give of our best, we all need peace and clarity out of which self-regulation and resilience can grow. If it was good enough for the great philosophers, world leaders like Kennedy and Churchill, there’s probably something worth exploring for ourselves.
For some, the ability to just sit with oneself seems like a mountain to climb, but with practice, it can provide great clarity of thought. When the water is muddy it is hard to see the lake’s true beauty. Likewise, everyday joys can be missed, and the world seems a darker, less friendly place as we try to do more and more at the expense of being who we truly are.
Why not book some time with yourself today, you might be pleasantly surprised by who shows up?
